What is Krita?

Krita (krita.org) is a free raster image editing and digital illustration desktop application available for Windows and Linux.

As a drawing program, Krita supports stylus pen pressure from drawing tablets (e.g. Wacom's), and comes with a variety of brush packs and brush settings. It also has many features that makes it great as an image editing program, even better than GIMP in many situations: non-destructive layers that apply filters and transformations, dozens of different layer blend modes, tools to draw simple shapes (rectangles, circles, etc.), horizontal, vertical, and multi-angle symmetry support, and perhaps most amazingly: animation support! You can create GIFs or animated cartoons using Krita (although, honestly, I think you should use something more suited for that, like OpenToonz).
